Philosophy & Approach

E2Geochemistry, Inc. believes:

  • that in many, if not most, cases the geochemical behavior of waste rock and process wastes is the greatest source of environmental concerns and is a significant component of social concerns about new mines
  • that the best understanding and foresight relative to the environmental consequences of mining an ore body can only come through an appreciation of the economic geology of that ore body.
  • that environmental evaluations, based on evolving knowledge of a prospective ore body, should proceed in tandem with conventional ore-reserve, metallurgical and mining evaluations.
  • that proactive incorporation of the geochemical characteristics of waste rock into mining plans can improve permitting prospects and long-term profitability.
  • that those responsible for implementing environmental programs, at all levels, need and deserve the fundamental technical background that allows them to collect good data and make responsible decisions.
  • that preemptive management of sulfidic waste, with the objective of preventing ARD generation, is the only responsible approach
  • that treatment-in-perpetuity, as a planning-level waste management strategy, is not sustainable, not economically tenable and, increasingly, not permittable.
  • that situations exist in which environmental issues and their associated costs should preclude mining, just as insufficient reserves or difficult metallurgy might preclude mining.
